Art in Mason County

Scott Zesch was born and raised in Mason, Texas after his great-great grandfather settled in the area in the mid-1850's.  Zesch brings the story of Mason to life is his book "The Captured: A True Story of Abduction by Indians on the Texas Frontier".  

Fred Gipson is best known for writing the 1956 novel "Old Yeller", which later became a popular 1957 Walt Disney film. In addition to the popular book "Old Yeller", Gipson also wrote a number for western themed short stories.

J. Marvin Hunter was an author, historian, publisher and printer best known for his work in founding the "The Frontier Times Museum" in Bandera, Texas.  Born and raised in Mason (and the surrounding area), Hunter began his newspaper career at an early age when he left school to work for his father at the Mason Herald.  Throughout his career he penned a number for books about the western frontier.

Sandstone Cellars, Mason's original winery, is also home to a boutique gallery exhibiting sculptures, paintings and drawings.  Sip wine and peruse the local art.

Located on the Mason Square, this real estate office provides space for local artists to showcase their work.  Grab a cup of coffee at neighboring Willow Creek Cafe and browse the beautiful works of art.

This wonderful shop just off the Mason Square provides affordable art by many local artists.  The gallery owner loves to share stories of the artists.

The Spring Chamber Music Festival is a wonderful opportunity to catch concert performances performed in the Historic Odeon Theter.  Concerts include String Quartets, Jazz Quartets, Clarinet Performances, Fiddle Performances and more.
